The Certificate in TESOL programme will help you realise your dream of becoming an English teacher in just four weeks. This NZQA approved and accredited course will enable you to teach English to non-native speakers of English in contemporary classrooms all around the world.  This programme will equip you with the basic skills and knowledge to teach young learners, teenagers and adults.  In this programme, which is both theoretical and practical in nature, you will be exposed to the latest teaching theories and techniques.  This course includes language teaching methodology, language analysis, peer teaching, teaching practice and a materials compilation project.

Those who want to teach English to non-native speakers of English. This programme is perfect if you are planning to travel overseas and want to work, or if you want to teach non-native speakers of English in New Zealand.

Programme Structure
Methodology

This will expose you to the different approaches of teaching language and focus on the use of communicative methodology in the contemporary classroom.

Language Analysis

This includes a study of grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation and at the same time serves to develop the language skills of trainees.

Peer Teaching and Teaching Practice

You will have the opportunity to experiment with different teaching methods under the guidance of your teacher trainer.

Lesson Observation

You will also be able to observe and learn from experienced Fern tutors in an actual classroom environment.

Classroom Management

This will equip students with the skills and knowledge to manage language classrooms in different situations.

Programme Duration
  • 4 week programme
  • Starts the first Monday of every month except in December or on Public Holidays (where the course will start the next working day)
  • Full Time 32.5 hrs per week
Entry Requirements

Students must:

  • Be 18 years of age or older, AND
  • Hold minimum of IELTS 5.0-6.0 or equivalent or equivalent
