Programme Structure

The course is structured into the four skills of speaking, listening, reading and writing. Students will be assessed on both general language skills and their ability to communicate in hospitality-specific contexts.

 

In addition to classroom-based study, students will be able to discover more about the hospitality industry through field trips, guest industry speakers, and participation in cultural events.

 

Fern and NZMA students share the Anzac Avenue building so you will also be able to take advantage of the realistic training environment of NZMA's Auckland Central Academy. Facilities include modern cocktail-training bars and a fully operational café with a front-of-house training area.

Programme Duration 

  • Classes start every Monday
  • 12 week programme, though can be studied for shorter periods if in conjunction with another Fern or NZMA programme
  • 20 hrs per week + optional 4 hrs per week conversation class or self-study class
  •  

    Note: The full 12 weeks must be successfully completed for acceptance into the New Zealand Management Academies (NZMA) Diploma in Hospitality Management and in order to receive the NZMA Achievement Certificate. Students who successfully study EFH for less than 12 weeks will receive a NZMA Completion Certificate for those modules.




Entry Requirements

Students must:


  • Be 16 years of age or older, AND
  • Hold minimum of IELTS 5 or equivalent, OR
  • Achieve the required level on the Fern English Language grading exercise
