Fern Students Head to the Bay of Islands

Events & Activities

Weekends away are not usually part of the curriculum at most language schools – but Fern School of English is no ordinary school!

At the end of January Fern held a special promotion which allowed a group Fern students and their tutors to jump on a bus and headed up to the stunning Bay of Islands for a free overnight weekend trip. On the way north, the lucky group stopped at the famous Puhoi cheese factory and a honey store as well as enjoying lunch in Whangarei. The bus arrived in Paihia mid-afternoon – just in time to visit the beach and lay in the sun before boarding a catamaran boat for a spectacular two-hour cruise around the Bay of Islands! Definitely one of the weekend’s highlights, the cruise was followed by a traditional Kiwi-style barbecue.

Accommodation was in a popular Paihia backpackers and students were able to spend the Sunday exploring the local area at their leisure. Kayaking tours proved to be a popular choice and some students even tried parasailing!

As this was a special promotion the trip was paid by Fern School of English. It was a great way for students from different courses to mix together and also spend time with their tutors outside the classroom.
