NZMA’s Café Fusion was filled with the mouth-watering aroma of international cuisine on May 1st.
A group of elementary, pre-intermediate and intermediate students from Fern School of English were cooking up a storm as part of a giant cultural cook-off! The English language students were put into small teams and given the task of cooking a delectable dish from a foreign country. Students from Japan, Korea, Saudi Arabia, Malaysia, Brazil and China joined forces preparing everything from pizza to sushi.
Tutor Portia Murad said the activity was a great way for students to practise their English out of the classroom environment.
“We have put people from different nationalities and different levels into each team so it is a great opportunity for them to use their English and build on their vocabulary and speaking and listening skills,” she said.
“It is also a good team-building activity and a way for our students to make friends and have fun.”
The best part of all was at the end of the cook-off, students and tutors got to enjoy the fruits of their efforts. It was a banquet fit for a king!
