Students from Fern School of English showed off their sporting prowess at the recent NZMA Auckland Central Academy annual sports day.
The Fern students cleaned up in the soccer tournament, with their teams gaining both first and second place in the competition, which drew entries from 12 teams. As these passionate footy players battled it out for top rankings, other Fern and NZMA students tried their hand at badminton, volleyball, touch rugby and cricket.
Around 150 NZMA and Fern students and staff attended the event, which was held at Orakei Domain in Auckland’s beautiful Okahu Bay.
NZMA’s Auckland Central Academy holds a sports day every year so that students can get to know each other and also get involved in outdoor activities. Tutor and programme leader for business Martin Szeko was in charge of the sporting activities while hospitality programme leader and tutor Brett Adlam organised the sumptuous barbecue lunch. Brett ordered 250 sausages, 220 steaks, 220 chicken kebabs, 150 hamburger patties, ten kilos of tomatoes and 18 iceberg lettuces to cater for the hungry masses! Other tutors showcased their own industry talents by helping to prepare, cook and serve the feast!
As always the event was a huge hit, thanks to clear blue skies, superb organisation and some very energetic students.
